My Black Is Beautiful

2022
CONTENT CREATION — DESIGN — COPYWRITING — PRODUCTION

Once upon a time, there was a Black haircare brand by Procter & Gamble named My Black Is Beautiful. Unfortunately, the products were discontinued, and the brand was sunsetted, but in its prime, the products were luxurious.

I worked with the team at Zeno Group, a communications agency, to produce content for the brand’s social media channels. This work allowed me to dive into the world of Black hair care and flex my skills as a creator—developing video concepts, writing scripts, social copy, and creating Reels and TikToks for the @mbib social accounts. Knowing that topics relating to hair care can be political (I see you, CROWN Act), including sensitivities around how Black women style and choose to wear their hair, this was a part of the brand I wanted to amplify.

I also co-produced a street interview series called #TextureTalk, which was created to ask Black people questions about their hair, like “what do you put in your spend-the-night bag,” or which hairstyle they would “date, marry, or divorce.” I loved working on this brand and, of course, receiving my monthly stipend of shampoo and conditioner.
